Behind barres
I spend a lot of time behind barres - not the criminal type and not the drinking type! Although I’m not impartial to the odd cocktail bar, (mine’s a margarita or espresso martini if you are wondering) no, for me it’s a ballet barre!
I discovered barre classes in 2016 and I was immediately hooked. It made me feel strong and flexible in my body and I really enjoyed the fact that there was music involved. I had loved ballet and dance since I was around 3 years old so my body was naturally drawn to it. The feeling that my bottom was more pert than it had been in years and not dangling around my knees was an added bonus!
But barre does something else. It really gets to the deep muscles aeround the pelvis and the stabilising muscles in our core and that makes our body more efficient and less like likely to get injured
