One size doesn’t fit all
I love my Pilates reformer and I use it with my patients all the time but I have one gripe. There is an accessory called ‘the box’. The box is exactly as you would expect. It is a retangular box with a slightly padded surface that you can sit on. It is used for many variations of exercises performed on the reformer. The problem is that it is too low! Most people, wheh they sit on it are unable to achieve a neutral spine. The reason for this is that the hamstrings are too short and they pull the pelvis into what we call a posterior tilt. In other words they slouch.
To address the problem I decided to make my own box at a height thatr would make it easier for my clients to get into a better position and here is the result! Notice that my hips are slightly higher than my knees and this allows me to get into a neutral spine.
